Too many businesses assume that growth occurs automatically when they start to add more features, product lines, etc. In reality, everything you say ‘yes’ to means you’re saying ‘no’ to another thing, whether it’s actually servicing your core products and customers, or the chance to say ‘yes’ to a much better opportunity down the road. One good test is to write a press release for any feature or product that you want to greenlight before you actually greenlight it. This will force you to answer important questions like “why does this matter?” and “what problem are we actually trying to solve?”.
